This section covers the review and personnel processes that run through the Office of the Provost, in roughly the order a faculty member encounters them. The Faculty Handbook (Macalester login required) is the governing document for all of them; the pages here summarize procedures and timelines.
The annual cycle
- Annual Review & Addendum — the February 15 addendum, chair evaluations, and course surveys
Reappointment, tenure, and promotion
- Tenure-Track Review & Promotion — third-year review, tenure, and promotion to full professor
- Non-Tenure-Track Review & Promotion — reappointment and promotion in the NTT series
Leaves
- Sabbaticals — regular and junior sabbatical leaves
- Leaves of absence — parental, medical, family care, and other leaves administered by Human Resources
Retirement
- Retirement & Emeritus Status — phased retirement, emeritus status, and benefits for emeriti faculty
Committees
- Faculty Personnel Committee (FPC) — reviews pre-tenure reappointment, tenure, and promotion to full professor
- Committee on Special Appointment Faculty (CSAF) — advises on matters concerning NTT and visiting faculty
